Sweet Dreams

The day is done. The boys are in bed. Ahhhhhhh.

Putting the boys to bed is one of my favorite times of the day. It's not what you're thinking.  It's not because I can't take another second of having the boys around {but that does happen}.

When everyone is washed, in pjs, and in their own beds - a calmness has fallen over the house.

A calmness that allows for sweet goodnight hugs and kisses.  Their arms wrapped tight around my neck as I tell them I love them and wish them "sweet dreams".

The promise of seeing them again in the morning for breakfast is always shared {my littlest guy will usually put in his breakfast order at this time too!}.

Then our most favorite bed time ritual - a good night song. I sing "I Love You a Bushel and a Peck".  The Mr sings "Silent Night".  The boys love both songs. Sometimes they will sing along {so adorable!} and other nights, like tonight, they will just take it all in and let the song wash over them as they settle for the night.

As I sing, I wish in my heart that they will have sweet dreams and even sweeter days. That they will always have peace and love in their hearts for themselves and others.  A mother's prayer.

  3. That just gave me tears ... I too love that time of night. My children are older, so I dont sing to them anymore, but I love you's and sweet dreams are always exchanged. When we are all home at the same time and everyone is in their own beds reading or listening to music, I love to hear the kids telling each other good night, love you and sweet dreams ... its like the Waltons (minus a few kids).
